Family relationships
Skye is
sixteen, unsure of herself and longing to be part of a loving family. When she
goes to visit her dying great-grandfather down on New Zealand’s West Coast she
becomes embroiled with an activist group protesting over an open cast coalmine
on a beautiful part of the country. By a clever use of prologue set nearly 70
years in the past and involving the present day characters, the reader is
constantly on their toes picking up clues of how the whole story fits together
with its network of lies and secrets. Like all Lorraine Orman’s stories this
one shows a deep understanding of family relationships and the need to be
loved.

If you go to:
you will
be able to view a fascinating video clip showing (in black and white) a trip
down the Denniston Incline. No wonder some people who went up there to live
stayed there all their lives – it’s a scary ride accompanied by some great
music!

stories about the area).
